Therapy Generation

Updated: Jul 4, 2021

I often joke that I will have to pay for my kids' therapy one day. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It's true, we are the "therapy generation". I have observed a labyrinth of introspection harming people as much as the traumas that are blamed in session. I've been there. As a therapized, self-improvement, psychology-junkie, with what I thought were breakthroughs.... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ I was trying to be my own savior. ⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And my children's.

(Ooooof. I see you, pride.) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀

We don't need to re-parent ourselves, because we can go to the Father. It's much simpler. When we give our kids and our weaknesses to Jesus, He covers us. We have to stop listening to the enemy nitpick our parenting. God's grace is sufficient for us and for them. We can rest in the knowledge that he loves them even more than we do. What would change if we really believed it? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Remember, the Lord has entrusted us with his children, knowing where we would fail and where we would succeed. And, he's pleased with his plan. We don't need to live in the brain space where we are constantly analyzing our performance and mistakes. Or, the failures of our own parents. It's not a headspace that glorifies God, and he wants to show us the way out. Let's trust him to be who He says He is.

Daily reminders I need:

The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places. I have a beautiful inheritance. - Psalm 16:6

I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on their children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing loving devotionto a thousand generationsof those who love Me and keep My commandments. - Exodus 20:6

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. - 2 Corinthians 12:9

Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. - Hebrews 10:22

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Now, go have that living room dance party. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
